(Chris) Clark returns with a couple of tunes for Warp Records. Can’t say I’m ever blown away by Clark’s output but, in fairness to the lad, he makes a nice tune.

‘Superscope’ is a particularly enjoyable outing mainly because it reminds me of Underground Resistance but with all the trimmings afforded to the modern kids, with their Ableton Live and whatnot. Held together with tight melodic line but prone to distraction ‘Superscope’ explores the possibilities of one synth line to the fullest ending with some tranquil Vangelis blurzz to bring you down. You might call it progressive techno but I’m gonna stick with ‘good Techno’.

Flip it for the excellently titled ‘Riff Through The Fog’ a tune more in keeping with old school Clark and his early contemporaries. Dark but inherently quirky this tune doesn’t hold my attention in the same way as the A-side but there’s enough going on here to entertain and amuse, especially that little Clangers meets Thomas The Tank Engine sample. Gotta be careful with those ‘found’ sounds.
