Here's the debut album of silky synthpop from turbulent lovecouple Elephant, a graceful collection of languid, sun-bleached yacht pop full of soft synth and chiming guitar and sultry female vocals which the press release describes as "uniquely curvy". It's dreamy stuff, cool and measured and inviting in a strangely detached sort of way.
In places, such as single 'Skyscraper', there's a lovely '60s pop influence with weird doo-woppy vocal loops and cute little palm-muted guitar arpeggios suspended in gently droning synths, while 'Ants' has a nice lilting accordion-led groove with drifty little tremolo guitar bits and 'Come To Me' displays confidence in its gorgeous vocal hook with a sparse piano-led arrangement and more of that tremolo.
Overall it's a mixed bag. When they've got the '60s influence at the fore and the right balance of synths to live instrumentation they can strike on something really lovely, almost from the Broadcast or Death & Vanilla school of dreampop, but you've got to trudge through a bit of dreary Tennis-esque soft pop filler to find the gems.
