Dard Å Ranj Från Det Hebbershålska Samfundet is a two piece musical act integrated by the sweedish musicians Vaarg (who co-runs both Northern Electronic/Blodörn labels and records music under other several aliases) and Michael Isorinne (aka. Isorinne, Dystopiska Visioner). I've listened to their music a lot recently, first finding their debut cassette released last year on Funeral Fog Records and then this excellent album pressed by the Clan Destine Records crew: "Det Stora Oväsendet". Translated from Swedish as "The Big Uproar" or "The Great Noise", the recordings hold meaning on the seemingly remote ages of the XVII century in Sweden, when witchcraft and other heresy related acts where highly convicted by the church and law; in thwm, the duo holds to that thematic to narrate the many scenes of times, illustrating them in sound. Iin a more technical aspect, I find myself quite interested about the general sound of the album, somitemes reminding me of obscure experimenal techno acts like Voices From The Lake, Silent Servant and Donnato Dozzy, but also denoting a definitive inclination to a noise-industrial panoram with the likes of Raime, Camera Obscura or their locals Råd Kjetil Senza Testa. Generally speaking, it is a great album; full of contrasting passages made of a rich, deep and penetrating sound, where you will find perfect strokes and executions on different percussion machines, analong synthezisers, effect pedals and various electronic sound modifications. To engage the bond between the name and the meaning of the album, the sound nexus becomes really important when you listen to this piece. Divided in 9 cuts with a total lenght of 40:30 minutes, "Det Stora Oväsendet" is a definitive must listen if you're fond of the ealry 80's-reminiscent obscure electronic sound. Keep your eyes peeled on their upcoming tape on Opal Tapes (August/September 14) and also check other Northern Electronics, Blodörn and Clan Destine Records artist roasters, there are really good records in there.
