"A bit Wild Beasts" shouts the post-it note on the front of this promo. I'm listening to said promo right now and I see what the anonymous post-it donor meant, this is a moody and grandiose kind of synth-based pop with earnest falsetto vocals by the spoonful and the occasional spidery and understated guitar line, but to dismiss Babe as copyists would be churlish and inappropriate as there's plenty of interesting stuff going on throughout this slick and palatable album.

It's true, though, that you will struggle with this album if you don't appreciate that soaring falsetto vocal style which is spread liberally throughout the dozen tracks on display here. I'm learning from the press release that this self-produced effort has been made transatlantically, between friends in Glasgow and Bordeaux, so presumably these tracks have been pinging electronically over the channel having things added and tweaked in order to reach their current shape.

You really wouldn't know about the geographical distance just to listen to the music, though, it's quite precise and understated and slick, with some clever grooves and dense harmonies in tracks like 'Tilt' and 'Trip Wire' giving it a warm, dusky feeling, like it's the kind of synthpop you'd listen to on your porch on a summer evening when it stays light late into the evening. I struggle a bit with all the falsetto vocals but overall this is really very pleasant.
