I felt compelled to write a few lines about this record before physically having a copy to hear it in full. I checked out a preview tune on SoundCloud while adding it to the site and it really hit that sweet spot. San Francisco’s Austin Cesar was last spotted like two years ago or something on Public Information with his debut, a full length entitled ‘Cruise Forever’ and now has this fine thing, namely ‘There’s a Crack In Everything’ out on Anthony Naples New York imprint Proibito. Well I’m not sure about cracks in everything but there’s certainly a large one on my rear end but enough about my bottom and onto the lush tune in question which is aptly titled ‘Slink’ and most slinky it is two. Based around a simple piano loop that has a classic house feel to it, it decays and warps as tape spools struggle to propel it along as it seemingly continuously decays and warps dreamilly. Imagine if William Basinski made house music or the vibes of Richard D. James classic ‘Gak’ 12” on Warp.

I’ve no idea what the other two tunes are like but this is worth the entry fee alone and I don’t expect this to hang around for too long. Will easily go down well with followers of the label and family; Anthony Naples, Huerco. S, Hank Jackson etc. As well as those diggiin’ the lo-fi housier side of Opal Tapes.
