Here's some good old indie rock on Fierce Panda, a label who must be loving the fact that everything sounds like the '90s again at the moment. On the A side we've got 'Play Dumb' which is a pleasantly minimal bit of indie pop based around a pounding drum beat and a cheeky little White Stripesy guitar lick. It's a fairly pedestrian bit of indie rock really, but I have to admit I really like how economical the arrangements are. It makes me want to forgive the fact that their singing lad does that emotive '90s yelp-croon like he's been listening to lots of Geneva and Suede and My Life Story.

Over on the other side he's trying to sound like Jeff Buckley with some heavily reverbed guitar plucking. It sounds even more like Geneva than before of course. I wish they hadn't done that, I really didn't mind the A side. Nothing like an over-earnest falsetto to send me scampering for my ear plugs. This isn't objectively bad but your enjoyment will depend on whether you can stomach those whiny vocals.
