Brock Van Wey is back with another album! This dub-ambient-techno fella puts out so much stuff that it's becoming increasingly difficult to talk about without repeating yourself, although on the bright side this is genuinely quite different from other things I've heard from him. "Deeper" and "darker" say the only two useful words in the press release, "beatier" and "vocallier" say I.
There are of course the warm washes of droney synth that inhabit all this man's records, but there's also some more cutting tones and concise melodies, even the odd bit of tinkly piano which is very lovely, intricate clicky beats, and loads and loads of vocals dub-echoed and blurred into forthright melodic wisps which are applied liberally over everything most of the time, in a way which is grating on me fairly quickly. The skittish beats are a surprise though, sometimes even heading into some kind of relaxo take on early Warp and going nicely with his warm synth drones, but I'm really not into all these vocals.
Each track starts promisingly with some gliding peace drones and then the vocals and beat come in. There's heavy use of some kind of robotic vocoder/autotune effect on closer 'Broken, Whole' as well. In fairness I do tend to find vocals the most annoying thing about records in general, but they really are disturbing the otherwise relaxing experience I would be having listening to this. I wouldn't mind hearing a CD of the instrumentals though.

I was happy to find a european shop to sell me this copy of Bvdub - I'll Only Break Your Heart. The truth is that i didn't recognized this release when it came out, and the internet prices started to increase. I didn't wanted to have it as second hand ware or buying from a private person, I wanted to have a sincere shop which was able to offer me a new, sealed copy for a friendly price, and so I have chosen Norman Records. What I also like was the shipping price to Germany, because many shops in the net have much higher costs. I was totally happy with the service, the fast shipping and processing of my order. I am 100% satisfied, though I never heard before of Norman Records . This is how everything should work. About the release: it is one of Brock's best releases so far, but as I mentioned, I had overseen it because of the massive 2CD Release "Home" on Echospace. I found some snippets in the internet, because the picture pushed all my buttons and I was surprised how beautiful it sounds , I think it counts to the top 5 albums of Brock. I must say, I found the album during a difficult time in my life, during the first months of this year, I think it was no suprise that I finally found it, or at least had to find it. I started to listen to the songs late at night, and when you hear such deeply moving music late at night .. I don't know to explain, but it does something with you. I kept the feeling of those late-night-moments for a longer time, it was burnt into my soul somehow. Having this CD was a must. I must say, that I personally know Bvdub and met him 2 important times, which was incredible. This album was materialized during a time, where we came closer together, and the more releases I own from Bvdub, the closer I feel to him. And I would like to say: the better I understand him.
