7/10 Mike Staff review, 10 April 2014
Gang Wizard are not a real gang, or even a real wizard, but a band. There are five of them, three share a surname, they've been going for ages in one form or another and they make up their songs as they go along. Yeah, completely off the cuff, bash 'em out and see what happens style. It's brave, it's difficult, it's not always fun to listen to, but these guys certainly put some welly into it.
Thankfully the basic forms and structures of rock'n'roll are so ingrained into their hive mind that despite all the primitivist skronk there's still plenty of familiar rhythms and structures to help them hold things together in their own ramshackle way, sometimes soaring into surprisingly finished-sounding spiky no wave punk, other times floundering hopelessly as they try unsuccessfully to stop the wheels falling off the bike. I think the fact that you get to see them fail makes you root for them more when they actually get a head of steam going, but to many this will sound like music only in the loosest sense of the word. Filthy but in places quite good.
