8/10 Mike Staff review, 20 February 2014

The indefatigable Mike Cooper returns again this week with this beautifully presented LP which comes complete with a 32-page booklet full of notes and photographs. His 'White Shadows in the South Seas' CD last year left me thoroughly impressed so it's good to see his newie on my review pile.

For those who aren't familiar with this veteran wandering avant-minstrel, he makes a peculiar kind of tropical ambient sound art which throws together field recordings and weird hesitant dubbily looping modular synths with weird treated steel guitar touches which slide and smear and burble over the top. It's like Sun Araw in places, that meditative sense of breathing space, but it's got more droney aspects and of course the steel guitar and field recordings, so he's not working from the same silent base as Stallones.

It's freeform ambience which mixes elements of dub, field recordings, synth experiments and tropical guitar wibble into a constantly shifting tapestry of alien sound, transporting you off somewhere more exotic, tempting and threatening. Good stuff.

10/10 MIKE COOPER Customer review, 2nd March 2014

Hi there - no synths on there at all and I love the word 'wibble' - all the 'sounds' are acoustic digitally manipulated and/or my electric lap steel all looped and layered - apart from electronic percussion. Thanks for the review. Love ya..mike cooper - www.cooparia.com
