9/10 Ant Staff review, 19 February 2014

The Oberman Knocks original is a really chilled electronic dreamscape bristling with processed field recordings, otherworldly vocals and glistening electronics. It’s a slow motion trip of ethereal ambient, augmented with bass and slight synthetic drums. All tranquil chilled and quite pleasant.

Over on the other side Autechre make a rare appearance in remixing mode with an unfathomably complex seventeen minute epic rework that’s gonna take me a few spins to get my head around. It sounds like an electronic music studio’s hardware coming to life and transforming into little insectoid robots like ones in the film Batteries Not Included. It’s rhythmic but you’ll struggle to find a loop in there as it seemingly constantly evolves and grows, twisting into new shapes. This is Autechre at their most uncompromising and intriguing. Our business lady has just highlighted the fact that some of the sounds are frog like and I agree. Like a million cyborg toads man.

Ant, you are right again, but that remix is a standout in their long remix career. So much to explore, they really worked hard I guess. A clear 10/10 :-)
