Icelandic composer/producer Johann Johannsson and his score for the Denis Villeneuve film of the same name, the film centres around the abduction of two young girls and stars Hugh Jackman and Jake Gylennhaal, the movie seems to have a pretty bleak storyline so I guess the music has to fit with that. It’s all very long drawn out strings pieces and deep, foreboding brass sounds, in fact there is little in the way of anything else really except a few moments of percussion to invoke a tense atmosphere.

I find it hard to appreciate a soundtrack album without having seen the film and this being so minimal and dark makes it even more so, as a composer Johannsson has become the go to guy for these kinds of tense thrillers and moody indie films and he does seem to be doing an incredible job, but as a standalone piece of music it would be quite hard to categorise. My advice, go see the film first and then you can truly immerse yourself in this record.
