- Tributes & Diatribes by Jesse Sparhawk / Eric Carbonara
8/10 Clinton Staff review, 03 April 2014
In hapless record store incident no 18534, Phil passes this to me saying it ‘probably’ something to do with Alan Sparhawk, its his wife or daughter or summat. Well Jesse Sparhawk is a man and has nothing to with Alan as far as I know. He plays a lever harp and pal Eric Carbonara plays an upright chaturangui amongst other things. Like Chas and Dave they have a non pictured drummer, Peterson Goodwyn, to complete the trio. Its quite lovely, they have a total of 60 strings between them so as you imagine its all rather plucky.
These semi improvised compositions are pastoral affairs the instruments working together in unison to provide an ethnic attack of the stringed things. Both instruments have a lovely mystical feel to them wandering this way and that at their own leisure. If you like the sound of zithers and dulcimers you are going to love this. No idea who to compare it to but it fits in beautifully on amongst the other VHF pluckers
