7/10 Clinton Staff review, 06 March 2014
These Cherry Red compilations are truly a treat for fans of 80’s indie pop who wish to re-discover some of the lesser sung guitar strummers of the era. On this compilation there are over 50 songs across two CD’s for less than twelve quid. Nuff sed.
It seems almost implausible now that before Oasis, before My Bloody Valentine and before Nick Heyward, Jasmine Minks were Creations flagship act. They have a tougher sound than a lot of their C86 era contemporaries and sound more of a garage band than one with bowl haircuts and songs about not having sex. They have much more akin to the 80s peddlars of 60’s garage psych such as The Barracudas, The Prisoners and various Medway type bands as well as the later types such Delta 5.
The CD is jam packed with rough and ready guitar tunes which reference The Jam, The Stranglers and The Yardbirds. It wasn’t all floppy fringes y’know.
