Throats / Maths is a split LP from Mathcore bands Throats and Maths (believe it or not). It's a short album at roughly 26 minutes long, but in this case it's definitely quality over quantity. Each band contributes 5 songs to this LP, and each of the 10 songs are very enjoyable to listen to.

The 5 Maths songs kick off this record, and do so very well, with an interesting mix of clean and heavy guitars throughout these songs. Maths is the more melodic band that feature on this record, with the guitar riffs being played on the higher strings and frets.

My favourite song of these 5 is Statue of Her, notably because of the section where the guitar plays a clean melody which juxtaposes the vocalists manic screaming.

Once you have finished listening to the song Solace, you are introduced to Throats. Instantly there is a noticeable distinction in style between the two bands, with Throats taking influences from Grunge, Punk and maybe even Djent. Throats is much less melodic than Maths but much more rhythmical. The guitar riffs are generally played on the lower registers, and are, more often than not, synchronised with the drums in each of the songs.

My personal favourite track of Throats is Deathnaps, which also happens to be the longest track on the record. I liked this song for it's different 'parts' structurally and the dramatic mood of it.

All in all, this is a very good listen if you enjoy the mathier side of metal, or if you enjoy not being able to tap your foot along very well with music; however, if you're looking for low pitched growls and beat drops, this record is not for you.
