7/10 Jack Customer review, 12th February 2015

Despite a fairly close association with the legendary tenor saxophonist John Coltrane, trumpeter-flugelhornist Wilbur Harden is not very well known or ranked among the best trumpet players of the 1950s. This Savoy CD, recorded in March and June, 1958,entitled Jazz Way Out, presents Coltrane in a sideman role on three compositions by Harden and one by trombonist Curtis Fuller. Rounding out the group is pianist Tommy Flanagan, bassists Ali Jackson and Doug Watkins (track 4), and drummers Arthur Taylor and Louis Hayes (track 4).
