The ever-popular deep space techno rock shapeshifters Gnod celebrate going on tour with noiseniks Gammelfleisch by dropping this hypnotism-themed split LP with pasted covers and hand-stamped bright orange LPs. Gnod's side follows the theme of the artwork nicely, with samples from hypnosis records interspersed with minimal, slowly morphing synth throbs and weird echoing rhythmic details, before introducing gradually building looped rhythms in its final section which build ominously over a weird chopped up keyboard melody until everything is overtaken by industrial pounding and rattling. Deeply psychedelic stuff!
Flip the record and Gammelfleisch's side also begins with samples from an hypnosis record, muffled and treated with lots of echo, with weird intermittent musical touches that slowly unfold into a dream-like krautrock shuffle with pounding rhythms, part Ela Orleans sampledelic dreampop, part carnival boogie kraut, it's a wibbly, otherworldly concoction which defies description but is genuinely quite uplifting, with bright little keyboard melodies poking out from the thick fog of samples and rhythms. Cool split - as you would expect it's got both bands going full hypno.
