9/10 Mike Staff review, 30 January 2014
Those two titans of Japambience, Chihei Hatakeyama and Tomoyoshi Date, have been putting their heads together once more for a new CD of transcendent peace drones and lightly chattering field recordings. After a day of dry and difficult records it's a welcome relief to hear these new-agey sound tapestries flood over my ears.
The second track, 'Light Blue Mist and Ripple', has head-spinning wide-panned chimes tinkling all over the shop over some blissful drones, somehow remaining relaxing despite the all-enveloping and seemingly chaotic nature of the melodies, in stark contrast to 'Warmth of Winter Woods' which follows it, with field recorded footsteps laid over a brittle solitary piano, slowly being overtaken by curious little backwards melodies and twittering birdsong.
All four tracks here are really lovely, a delicately balanced mixture of drones, electro acoustic texture-building and evocative field recordings which somehow manages to be utterly relaxing and yet also full of character and surprises. That's my faith in music restored for at least another hour or so...next!
