Here we have four epic side long tracks of lo-fi psychedelic/ new-age/ ambient from Belgium’s Eva Van Deuren. At the risk of sounding slightly sexist, what’s striking about Eva’s sound is a very delicate, pretty, feminine beauty seems to glow from her productions. You can almost imagine her as a child drawing pixies with her crayons. I was never particularly taken with the new new-age movement but Eva’s tracks have really stood out amongst the crowd of practitioners. Her stuff I heard on Blackest Rainbow was super nice.
Across this record there’s a very submerged aquatic feel with bubbling liquid sounds, rainbows refracting off of crystals beneath tranquil blue oceans. Chime’s and music boxes twinkling beneath tropical seas. Her tools are tape loops, toys instruments and apparently some self created electronics and as a result she’s forging a fairly distinctive sound within her field, with a sense of playfulness and a lovely almost naive magical quality. This is pure blissed out escapism and being transported into her fairytale is effortless. If you can’t recline and float away to this music then you probably hate babies, sweeties, puppies, christmas and could well be inherently evil. Charming stuff.
