6/10 Clinton Staff review, 03 April 2014
Hello. I’m from the 80’s and I’m here to review the new maxi single from Evan Only. Certainly those boys from Johnny Hates Jazz should be watching their backs as Evan Only are here to claim their sophisticated pop crown.
With a voice one part Green Gartside, one part Boy George, opening track ‘Shadows’ is sure to get airplay on the Gary Davies lunchtime show. ‘Take Me Away’ definitely sounds like that fab collaboration between Jon and Vangelis without Jon’s squeaky voice. If China Crisis ‘Working with Fire and Ice’ album was your bag, check the modern synth work on the title track. On the B side ‘No Matter What’ is like Paul Young collaborating with Stephen Hague whilst there are some disco rhythms on ‘The Actress’ to get you dirty dancing at the discotheque. The best is saved til last however with the West Coast synth rock of ‘From The Stone’ and you know we all like a bit of Glen Frey. Pick it up now from your local Our Price.
