Lord,  I’m tired. Tired of a non-sleep. Tired of a croaky throat, tired of a coffee hangover. Yes, I get hangovers off coffee....and pizza. However, this 12” record is really getting me motoring. Oh cock this is good. Right then, first up what is it? Its by Actual Taped Voices and here they 'Present the Sound of the Phantom Whistle'. Whatever that is.

Anyway what we have according to the press release are ‘4 slow paced, atmospheric electronic cuts’. Which kind of describes it but I’m going to go into further detail. You know I said Fourtet was like a plumber, just getting the job done? Well this is like the worlds most brilliant genius plumber who has not settled and wants to do some next level shit. The flip is better than the A side(though Phil disagrees  - horses for courses),  the first track is momentous. Half way through it bursts into a kind of stupendously noisy kraut driven electronic track. Its like someones said to Squarepusher just pick your two best notes and play them over and over whilst someone gets busy distorting the drummer from Neu.

Second track is just as good but is a dubbee style, think Strategy, think Axxo, thing the stomach rumbling bass lines from Leeds Sub Dub infiltrating a Mouse on Mars track. Rewind to the A  side and its more cut up, a huge clap leads the way, like Robin Guthrie has got hold of Whitney Houston’s clap machine. The final track is all fizzy and fuzzy and gurgling. A great 12” throughout, the second two tracks being exceptional.
