'You've Got A Twin In The Attic (You Lunatic)' has to be my favourite song title of the day. Here's a 12" of epic late-night house darkness from mysterious international duo Twins. The sides play at different speeds and there is absolutely nothing in the artwork to even hint towards this, which means I just accidentally found the first two minutes of side B roughly 70% more irritating than they should've been. If you bear this fact in mind before you start listening then you can save yourself that needless irritation.
The sounds themselves are good on these too, drawn out synthscapes with danceable beats and blurry female vocals and sometimes anarchic layers of synthetic bleep'n'drone atmospherics. These people like having fun with synthesizers and that is the main focus here, the songs are somewhat secondary.
I'm particularly liking the shuddering modulated drone in 'Love Monarchy' that's distorted into an almost guitar-like crackle, then it's joined by a squeaky drone and some more peaceful new agey drones and then the vocals call out yearningly into the beatless ether, it's almost spiritual until a disco beat and comedy synth wobble suddenly materialise. This one's my favourite of the three tracks here, there's something a little bit Fuck Buttonsy about the uplifting layers of drone and the beat on top is really cheeky. Cool 12"
