My respite from the darkness of my self inflicted review choices this week comes in the form of a sweet tape from Pulse Emitter, better known to his chums as Daryl Groetsch. The audio on these spools arriving just before his ‘Crater Lake’ LP on Immune lands on our shores.

Do we really need another space tape? I hear you cry. Well if you’re not familiar with this guys stuff you should know that he’s an absolute master of his artform, creating cosmic synth music that manages to avoid some of the cheesy new-age-isms that turn me off some of this stuff. On ‘Crater Lake’ he constructs immaculately produced crystalline worlds, bright utopias where nothing can hurt you. At just under an hour it’s a pretty epic trip with layers of blissed out synths beaming like the rays of the sun. Delicate melodies sparkle and twinkle amongst the rich, tactile layers of sublime synth work.

The way Daryl makes his machines sings sounds effortless and as a result getting lost inside and fully involved in his world is equally as effortless and real pleasure. Inside Crater Lake all is well. Pure tranquility on tape.
