Here is the first single to be taken from New York band Winkie’s debut album ‘One Day We Pretended To Be Ghosts’, already making waves on the underground scene with the album and selling bucket loads here at Norman Records, this little seven incher would be a perfect place to start if you weren’t familiar with there old school brand of new-wave goth/shoegaze.

A-Side ‘My Eyes Are Closed When The Sun Comes Up’ is like The Cure meets Cocteau Twins with spooky keyboards, B-Side ‘Always To Be Around’ is an My Bloody Valentine channeling Adam And The Ants style punk/noise jam, this is limited and hand numbered to 100 copies so get into this band or you’ll regret it for the rest of your life!

8/10 Rob van Poppel Customer review, 16th February 2014

We are back in the doomy early eighties. I am thinking about X-Mal Deutschland. I hope there will be a pretty frontwoman too. At the end of "Always to be Around" you hear the cure-based basslines and this continues at the beginning of "My Eyes Are closed as the sun comes up". Sinister synths and indeed female vocals! When Clifford Chases's novel Winkie will be filmed this band should play the score. Looking forward to more material.

10/10 Alex Hawkins Customer review, 14th February 2014

In an age when material ownership in music has dissolved into people showing me their mp3 players with a thousand songs. Give me a 7 inch record any day. I'm a proud owner of this Winkie record and somehow it puts you in connection with the band far more than a pixel on an mp3 player. My eyes are closed when the sun comes up spinning on my record player yes that's what I want and what you need. The revolving guitar riff suits every revolution of the physical record.
