With a sleeve resembling the poster for some 80’s horror movie its not surprising Plank! have been lumped in with the space soundtrack brigade. They produce a kraut-y funk like jam, playful with heavy nods towards John Carpenter and Vangelis.

They are, however, at heart a rock band and the guitar/keys, bass, drums line-up produces something more akin to a post rock group coming up with some late 70’s soundtrack unafraid of throwing the odd disco shuffle into the equation. The press release description of John Carpenter playing with 65 Days of Static is pretty spot on and I’m not going to be able to better it with an equally catch all comparison.

The B side continues the soundtrack theme but is much more melancholic. It has a similar melody to Chris Isaak’s ‘Wicked Game’ but the shuffly drum arrangement and early 80’s synthery sounds like something akin to Tortoise covering the ‘Drive’ soundtrack.
