Admiral Sir Cloudesley Shovell's now-long-gone LP on Rise Above never failed to raise a smile when I had to pack a copy for an order with its preposterous anthropomorphic parrot-man photo on the cover. In fact it's my second favourite anthropomorphic parrot-man record sleeve of recent years, beaten only by Bikes' self-titled LP on Bachelor.
This lot, of course, play hoary and shameless '70s-style hard rock which mixes the barrelling hi-jinx of Uncle Acid's 'Blood Lust' but mix it with a cheeseball glam swagger which brings to mind that recent Lantern LP and even a cool and edgy take on the silliness of bands like KISS and Slade. It's fun and predictable stuff, nice heavy riffs and some cool vocal harmonies, but while it is a lot of fun there's something quite anonymous about it too, I can't say with any confidence that if I heard another of this band's songs I'd recognise them.
If you're into this brand of retro '70s rock, though, they've got the formula pretty much spot on. It's a fun single.

Melt your face off awesome! The Shovell is the best thing to happen to Rock-n-Roll in a very long time. Old school but fresh. Dig it!
