This is a truly bizarre record. Inside its fancy gatefold sleeve you will find two 10" records, each containing a single side of music, to be played on its own or in unison with the other side. This is a truly bizarre record. Inside its fancy gatefold sleeve you will find two 10" records, each containing a single side of music, to be played on its own or in unison with the other side. It's not 'Zaireeka', though. I'm listening to disc A right now and there's a lot of weird droney ambience and bizarre stumbling rhythmic noise. There's a passage of booming brass drones, there's some weird stop-start piano and string drones with a weirdly saturated sound, then there's some kind of grinding industrial droning...it's not a million miles away from bands like Chrome or The Residents. Theatrical, abstract and really fucking weird. I'm not even sure if I'm playing it at the right speed!

I'm tasting disc 2 at 45rpm, partly because I've decided that might be the right speed, partly to save time, partly because the band themselves are telling me to "never forget you have a choice". I'm pretty sure this is the right speed actually because this side has more vocals. Weird chopped up musique concrete vocals with sentences constructed from alternately cold and shouty voices, over droning processed vocals. As the side goes on it would appear that voices are being used to make all the noises, but it is not a song so much as a patchwork of sampled shouts and hums, strangely hypnotic. I bet it sounds totally mental if you play them both at once but I only have one record player.

A unusual and fascinating record, but more like a challenge or a puzzle than an enjoyable thing you'll keep coming back to.
