7/10 Dan John Customer review, 12th March 2014
Coming across as some lost numbers-station meets electronic wasteland this tape ebbs and flows from one lo-fi creep-out to another. It's good, but compared to the genuinely odd and disturbing Conet Project comes across as a second-rate facsimilie. The reference points are too obvious, the cold-war paranoid explicit rather than implied. I think Richard Riggs would be better off reducing his palette a bit. Throwing all his 'creepy' noises (drones, public information announcements, detuned pianos, strained strings, gritty noise, distant voices, weird blasts of brass, jazz drumming etc.) into one album feels a bit much for me. Less is more and all that. I still really enjoy the album, it's a solid 7/10 for me as I like this sort of stuff, but I think if you're interested in this sort of thing either look up the Conet Project or maybe check out Thought Broadcast first.
