The original release of this record sounds like the kind of thing that would fit in well with the Twitter “Boomtwat” spoof. “The first edition was limited to just 14 hand numbered lathe cut X-Rays housed in laser cut jackets with Letterpressed Inserts cut onto the original X-Ray's from my fathers heart attack on Valentines Day 2012". Yet it is true and did happen. Presumably these spontaneous 6 & 12 string guitar recordings were just too good for just 14 people to hear so we now have this gorgeous repress.
The recent BBC documentary on John Fahey has made me fall back in love with grassroots American music and this is a nice addition to the ever-growing canon. ‘Marked Tree’ is an utterly gorgeous piece of delicately plucked acoustic guitar with just the faint whiff of droning synth to give it an otherworldly air. Even more gorgeous is the sun dappled ‘Oozing of Faint Reflections’, the bright, full guitar picks its way through a mesmerizing series of notes and chords for a massive hit of ear delight.
The B side contains some more mantra-ish pieces, less pretty than the A side but just as effective. For fans of James Blackshaw, Jack Rose, Robbie Basho etc etc and limited to 225 copies in silk screened sleeve.
