9/10 Mike Staff review, 24 January 2014

I've been looking forward to this LP. I've always thought the good folks at Sacred Bones must know their shit, and almost everything on that label has something to do with death and/or rock, so I had a hunch that this collection of obscure '80s deathrock cuts was going to be a goldmine. I am happy but not particularly surprised to be able to say that I was right.

There are 11 bands here, I haven't heard of a single one of them before. They all sound like they have been listening to a lot of The Cure and Siouxsie & the Banshees, chorus pedals and back-combed hair and glassy guitar tones all over the place. On first listen my highlights are the naive, loose and trashy Casio, bass and yelping of Kitchen & the Plastic Spoons, the Simon Gallup-meets-Bauhaus-meets-Magazine thump of Bunker, Taste of Decay's weird tinny Danzigisms and the penultimate track by The Naked & The Dead which has a nice fizzy guitar tone paired with some Siouxsie-esque vocals. Everything here is worthy of inclusion though, very good compilation.

8/10 Andy Customer review, 13th August 2014

Having never heard of any of the bands on the compilation, I decided to give it a listen on Amazon's sampler. Each sample was better than the last. I've been driving myself crazy with my old Post-Punk rotation (Danse Society, Sad Lovers and Giants, The Chameleons, Joy Divison, etc.). And kept telling myself internally that I needed to find new music. No need! It seems all this time Post-Punk had evolved into Deathrock and the genre is thriving. Give this album a listen, you wont be disappointed if you're into the groups I mentioned or enjoy newer stuff that actually has soul.
