Another year, another Pop Ambient compilation. Always a good place to start if you are looking for an all in one place to discover the latest great and good in the ambient genre. As I've said before (countless times) you can find your life mapped out with these compilations and its horrible to think that when Pop Ambient 3000 comes out I will probably be dead.

Opener Ulf Lohmann sets things going with a gorgeous slice of electro-acoustic wizardry. The strummed acoustics have an almost Cocteau Twins type zing to them. Thomas Fehlmann’s ‘Treatment’ meanwhile uses gorgeously washed out piano notes and bursts of static to create an evocative piece akin to someone playing a piano on top of a pylon. Good to see Simon Scott represent the United Kingdom. His ‘Fur Betty’ is a gorgeous churning mass of sound, like the history of shoegaze languishing in a milk churner. There are a couple of big hitters -Marsen Jules with a watery, metallic piece of ambience. and Wolfgang Voigt turns up twice once as himself and another as his legendary dub ambient moniker Gas remixing The Field in typically blissed out fashion and is worth the admission price alone.
