The chunter. Its the chunter that gets you. Chunter on this chunter on that. Lets remove their tongues and enjoy the music. John Wizards are a band not a man but the singer is called John. They come from Cape Town in South Africa and their sunshine-infused music has recently been heard opening up for Jagwar Ma on their recent trek round the globe.

Here is a 12” with one track from their recently acclaimed self titled album, a great remix by Seiji and a stunning mix by The 2 Bears (featuring a Hot Chip). The original track is a lovely summery slice of dub influenced  afro-beat. Starting with a walloping bassline, bright shimmering guitars charge in joined by high pitched winsome vocals. Improbably the melody recalls The Clash’s ‘Inoculated City’.

Seiji’s mix is a sweet West Coast squelshathon, bit of Fly Lo on the wheels of steel. Gorgeous stuff. Flip it over and The 2 Bears do a typically housey type take, utilising the rubbery bass from the original and injecting some sweet steel drums they come up with a joyous percussive affair for niteclub and carnival which retains interest over its 9 minutes. Midway through it switches tack with sweet vocal and blooping melody which leads to a bouncing second section, lovingly hand crafted for maximum impact. Its joyous grooves are truly prozac for the ear.
