Here's my second Wil-Ru offering of the week after the languid acid techno goodness of the new Kore tape, and this time it's a CD from Overcast Sound. This is more of the dubby techno that I expect when I think of this label, beat-driven but smooth and laid back, a warm and welcoming kind of techno easy listening that cleverly incorporates aspects of dub and house in its subtly melodic head-nodding drift.   I'm particularly enjoying 'Lattice', which strips things down to their bare essentials; a kick, a hi-hat and only the subtlest bubbling synth details and a quietly repeating melody. How can anyone feel stressed out listening to something like this? Sometimes I feel like dub techno is like easy listening for the 21st century, a kind of lifestyle accessory that serves a very specific purpose of chilling one out without any of those pesky distractions like clattery beats and harsh guitar or synth tones, and in that respect this is a masterful collection. I feel positively soothed and lightened by this gently drifting CD. Very nice sounds.
