I recently got told to give records only ten out of ten unless they're "perfect, like "future classics". I retorted that to my ears on 2-3 listens they often were. I take things home & rinse them see. I've made a few mistakes. Haven't we all. I even liked the bloody Chew Lips album for three months.

The revered Optimo crew comprise two music devouring legends from Glasgow who are so adored for their jaw dropping mashing of genres their now-defunct Sunday evening masses turned into temples of worship for open-minded discerning music slags. They even once perversely put on a live Sunday PA by Whitehouse the deviant buggers. Apparently the police got called about a "nazi band" in the area.

I believe I spotted the large ginger bearded one in the toilets at Pleasure Principle in Cornwall last Spring after their floor-fracturing set. He strolled in, all Glasgae cackle and boomed words to the effect of "Aye, it starts off like a wee acorn then ends up the size of a foockin' treee" A lot of people laughed very heartily.

To attempt to technically disassemble this wild style creation of a seamless funk-noir witching hours mix (well, seamless to the non-anal wankers out there of you listening to it) would be very tiresome and dismally boring.

The duo tale you on a odyssey that starts with Grouper's ghostly 'Vanishing Point' then drags you kicking, screaming, laughing, plunging and coral reef-diving through a journey that could on paper make like then out to be unhinged audience-abusing madmen.

Jeff & Jayne Hudson merge seamlessly from Liz Harris's beautiful entrance to be followed by cult techno funkers Terrence Dixon and Jared Wilson's 'This Love'. Recondite's superb 'Cleric' then rubs shoulders with beloved old sage Nurse With Wound.

All this sauteed with the finest stunning contemporary sounds offered by the likes of Hieroglyphic Being, Silent Servant, Carter Tutti and many other mercurial alumni mashed into a supernaturally dingy but thrilling cosmic broth. I really cannot live without this CD right now

Many of the featured artists I buy on sight myself so I realise that spiritually Optimo are probably right on my sonic level. God bless them. They really do make the music world go around. These fine chaps are forever brandishing a technics or four and world-class mixing skills. There'll be nae DJ mixes the year that top this fucker, sorry sonny.
