- False Haven by Caught In The Wake Forever

Here is the first of two releases this week on the lavishly packaged Sound In Silence label. You know, the ones with the little polaroid photograph on the cover...
Caught In The Wake Forever is Scottish multi-instrumentalist Fraser McGowan who has had a number of records released on the Hibernate, Mini50 and Audio Gourmet labels amongst others. ‘False Haven’ is a mini album of sorts with eight tracks; running at a mere 28 minutes, he draws on themes such as loneliness, melancholy and desperation - so this is not a record for the bouncy happy types.
I guess with music like this it would be hard to make it upbeat and jolly. With a post-rock, electronica, lo-fi instrumental feel to it, it immediately draws comparisons to bands like Labradford, early Low and Mogwai’s more pensive moments. Finger-picked guitars (both acoustic and electric) over ambient synths and downbeat rhythms and the odd tinkle of piano and found sound/field recordings: it’s a tried and tested formula but as the old saying goes, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
10/10 Michael LoCicero Customer review, 7th September 2014
Fraser McGowan aka Caught in the Wake Forever Has His Hands Involved With More Than Just His 3 Albums & 9 Singles Including Splits With Yellow6 & Crow vs. Crow. 40+ Pieces On TROME, HIBERNATE, RURAL COLOURS Where He Either Plays On, Writes For, Produces Or In The Case Of Probably the Finest Release Of The Year "THE GARDEN" by Porya Hatami on the DRONARIVM Label Which He Mastered. His FALSE HAVEN Release Is A Fine Example Of Why I Believe He Will Become More Noticed In The Music Industry & Will Be Highly Sought After By Many An Artist For Assistance On Their Works. I Highly Recommend This Release Of His & Suggest You Track Down Other Pieces He Is Involved With....HOORAY FRASER.......Michael LoCicero
