I’m not sure if I’d want a new bum. The one I have is fine, thank you. However, this is actually a duo featuring Ben Chasny (Six Organs of Admittance) and Donovan Quinn (Skygreen Leopards). I’m not sure if I’d want a new bum. The one I have is fine, thank you. However, this is actually a duo featuring Ben Chasny (Six Organs of Admittance) and Donovan Quinn (Skygreen Leopards).

It doesn’t really showcase much of the former's exemplary guitar twiddle save the odd bottle-on-the-guitar sliding technique. Instead it's a four song single of homespun acoustic laments. I have a bootleg tape somewhere of The Go Betweens' Robert Forster and Grant McLennan performing as a duo, just two acoustic guitars and two men singing together and it sounds just like this.

The A side has two examples of their Australian-sounding, lamp-lit, campfire folk whilst on the flip ‘White Car’ is more dirge-like with an eerie, dishevelled sound (something like Nick Cave falling to bits) and ’The Road of Broken Dreams’ is a lovely late night lament.

It sounds as if the whole thing was recorded in a church and has a live feel, as if the two of them had rehearsed maybe one or two times and are sort of making it up as they go along. It adds to the charm of a pleasant and unexpected record.
