I’ve been loving this Actress 12” since it landed at HQ earlier this week. Now I’ve finally sat down to compose a review with an ice cold Old Jamaican Ginger Beer to compose a review, one of our delivery guys passed a comment; “Listening to more weird music eh? I’ bet you lot are suicidal on a night!”. I don’t know about doing myself in listening to this plate but it’s certainly got a delicious downer vibe to it. ‘Grey Over Blue’ coming on like an ultra stoned Portishead on Mogadon. It creeps along ever so slowly in a similar fashion to his previous ‘Silver Cloud’ 12” with a similar dusty production sound. Deep and spooked with melancholy piano, it really hits the sweet spot.

Over on the flipside ‘Wee Bey’ many will know as the name of a character from HBO’s The Wire show. This has some of his trademark bleepy sounds that bubble like a smacked out version of Hot Butter’s ‘Popcorn’. The slow motion muffled techno groove as it unfolds is hypnotic and mesmerising and probably my favourite of the pair, but both are top notch. Black label in black paper sleeve, released with minimum fuss, just like Beyonce. Recommended.
