Straight outta the mean streets of York, UK come GirlsOnDrugs with this much heralded tune which has been selling like hotcakes within the fair city.

And why? Because this is an utterly brilliant tune. ‘Wash’d’ is the kind of yearning yet futuristic track that the collaboration between Bat for Lashes and Jon Hopkins should have sounded like. Super thick synths and skittery drums provide a basis for Kat McHugh’s voice, which swoops and swoons over the top, enlivened by some nice chopped up electronics giving a slight Fly-Lo feel to the proceedings.

It certainly edges towards being chart and dancefloor friendly yet has enough depth, icy melancholy and excellent production to snare the head nodders. On the flip ‘National’ has squelshy synths and a sped up vocal tic which snags in the brain long after the needle has departed from the record. Limited, collectible AND on mauve vinyl.

9/10 Ryan Customer review, 15th November 2013

“Washd” features the beautiful, sultry, vocal talents of Kat McHugh, and is a sexy, sensuous song with a story to tell. Upon listening, it will be clear that “Washd” is certainly ideal for the SexyTimes playlist.

“National” is the song that defined GirlsOnDrugs as an artist and marked this producer apart as something special. With a midtempo shoegazing sensibility and lots of reverberated vocal chops and thick synths, it’s a luscious modern day underground classic.

Great EP and looking forward to more form this artist.
