10/10 Christian Customer review, 6th January 2014

You don't have to fear that you get any Christmas goo here. No jingle bells in sight, no reindeers jumping out of your speakers. Once again our beloved Folk-Blues-Ladies add another two exciting songs to their amazing catalogue. Both are rather quiet songs that might put you into a mood that you associate with Christmas. So it fits the topic somehow, but you can be sure that these songs will also work when you listen to them in January or May (if you don't pay too much attention to the lyrics at least). "Simple Feeling" is an original Smoke Fairies song with an irresistable melody, subdued guitars, bass, organ and viola and perfect harmony vocals. Simply beautiful! "I Wonder As I Wander" is an old traditional, discovered and completed by John Jacob Niles in the 1930's. Niles accompanied himself on a dulcimer back then and his extremely high voice gave this song kind of a spooky feeling. Katherine Blamire's and Jessica Davies' voices are much more pleasant, but they kept this spooky feeling somehow by giving the song kind of a grumbling background sound with a fluttering viola played by Neil Walsh. This song has already been included on a tour only CD back in 2007 which I haven't heard yet, but I guess this is a new version. Once again this is a Smoke Fairies 7" in a very limited edition and you had to hurry up to get one. Really a nuisance these days in general. Everything is limited, special, tour-only, whatever. Rarities from the very beginning that make Ebay dealers happy. Great records like this should be available to everyone who wants one.
