8/10 Clinton Staff review, 19 December 2013
Firstly, format chat time and I’ve never seen the like of it - this has a picture disc on one side and black vinyl on the other. The black vinyl side plays music whilst the picture disc bit is just for show. Being the kind of British 'meat and potatoes' idiot that I am, I almost ignored this because I can’t say, never mind spell the name of the band or the song titles.
One cursory listen to the music has made me ashamed of my pathetic ignorance, though, as it's absolutely brilliant. Best described as beautifully pastoral loop-based psychedelic sound collages, the opening track is a gorgeous slab of instrumental beauty that immediately lodges deep within the soul. Its like taking Animal Collective's early delirious sonic stew, putting it all onto warm quarter inch tape, letting it age and rust over time until its perfectly saturated.
Just as good is the next track which uses warm flute and fizzing synths to create an undulating mush of gorgeous sound. The most incredible thing is that this continues throughout the record, and each track is as good as the last. Sometimes aged, chanting folk, sometimes the warmest of warm psychedelia, sometimes bonkers loopery - it's a lovely leafy sound from this Finnish psych collective.
Originally nailed for release on Olde English Spelling Bee, the record has now been brought to you by the good people at Dekorder as part of their 10th anniversary jig around the room and should be consumed with immediacy.
