8/10 Clinton Staff review, 22 November 2013
New on Warp and on absolutely insane coloured vinyl - a cut and paste collage featuring random objects; a butterfly, a tree, a few atoms. The weird thing is, it comes in a simple plain white sleeve. Its obviously been printed so couldn’t they have put something on it? Just one thing? The music is also a chaotic collage. What it does is use all kinds of electronic wizardry to create a pastoral but futuristic looping beast. Melody is injected courtesy of a squiggly electronic worm that picks out a tune amongst the chaos all around it.
The second track slows the thing down littering detritus amongst a fizzing drum machine. On the B side large dollops of bass bloop are placed amongst a tough drum whack, a stop start shimmering beast. ‘Obsidian Alms (mid-saccade)’ - quite - is a distorted mess in a good way. You just never know which way its going to twist and turn and has left my ears on the floor covered in blood as ’Sixth Seven’ squelches its way towards a peaceful conclusion.
It sounds like the perpetrator has at some point listened to Clams Casino, Autechre, My Bloody Valentine, Seefeel, Young Gods. Possibly all at the same time.
