- Music From Mathematics by Max Mathews
7/10 Clinton Staff review, 22 November 2013
They’ll reissue any old shit these days but this is fairly interesting. There are two 7”s on Cacophonic both featuring the first computer generated music created at Bell Laboratories way back in the early 60’s. This one features the work of Max Mathews and includes his haunting version of ‘Bicycle Made For Two’ which was referenced in Stanley Kubricks ‘2001’ film and was surely the first time a ‘robot’ had ever sung in public.
The rest of it consists of eerie random bleeps. The other 7” features the work of John Robinson Pierce which is generally more musical and eerily tuneful, marking the dawn of computer based music.
