- Die Reisen by Visonia et Dopplereffekt

Being the Dopplereffekt obsessive that I am, and for that matter any of Gerald Donald’s projects, I was really interested to hear what this super rare collaboration would sound like and was then somewhat unexpectedly swept off my feet with the majestic beauty of the two tracks on this 12” by Visiona that don’t featureDopplereffekt at all.
‘Die Reisen’ is a really lush tune with Visiona adding warm melodies to Donald’s trademark chugging synth arpeggios and glacial synth work. It’s pretty much great later period Dopplereffekt by numbers made all cosey.
The breathtaking ‘Antarctic Love’ is the real highlight of this record, beginning with cold synthetic wind sounds and then heartbreaking melodies emerge alongside a really longing bassline some sparse percussion; light understated kicks and simple claps. It’s sensual, romantic and utterly mesmerising and easily worth the price of admission alone. This is followed by ‘Impossible Romance’ with girl/ boy vocals and dreamy synths. The male vocal reminds me of Italo disco classic ‘Don’t Cry Tonight’ by Savage.
This is contemporary synth-pop at its absolute finest and comes with a huge recommendation. Heart melting stuff from beginning to end.
