Here’s a new Excepter record. It’s their first in 5 years following the Paw Tracks release ‘Debt Debt’ which we were obviously too busy to review back then as then poor thing is starless. Which is a shame as Excepter are a right interesting proposition for the ear. Prior to this they’ve had releases out on labels such as Load, Fusetron, and 5 Rue Christine to name but a few. Busy!
‘Christisland’ is two tracks of sheer cosmic knobfuckery. It’s bizarre to say the least. The title track is a ten minute plus electronic kosmiche workout with mongy synths, glitchy Autechre-esque beats and electronic bleeps, squiggles and noises. It’s great. In fact it’s so good I’ve just whacked it on again. It’s not just random crazy shit either, there’s some wicked melodies put together by someone with special ears. A truly excellent side of music!
Flipping over to side B brings us the 2nd and final track of the album (it is short at 20 odd minutes) - ‘Beargarden’. Another lengthy doozy. There’s more mongy melodic synth action over a throbbing hypnotic krauty beat. This one has a churchy feel to it and the melodies and hazy electronics remind me a little of Casino Versus Japan (aka legend). As good as the A side was, I think this might be even better.
Which means: this record is total genius!

One mistake - they released Presidence and the Late EP between Debt Dept and this new release, so it's only felt like five years. Trust me, it feels like it to me, too - absolutely cannot wait to spin this one, and you've made me even more excited!
