I like this Sampha dude. From time to time, a track of his appears on the wireless and my ear pricks. I’ve already reviewed his debut mini album here, which should be sought by fans of lo-fi home made pop/soul in thrall to Stevie Wonder, Hall and Oates and any of the yacht rockers but also brings to it urban sensibility and a home produced, hand stiched vibe. ‘Without’ appears on said mini album and is just as gloriously intertwining and soulful here. I hope this coupling with the immovable object that is The xx gives Sampha a leg up to the big time.

The London based quiet people contribute a track only previously available on the Japanese version of ‘Coexist’. It does there usual late night thing, the boy sings a bit, the lady sings a bit, both adopting American accents for some unfathomable reason. The track is even more minimal than usual with just pulsing bass, the odd bit of percussion and simple guitar lines. You know, with a bit of tweaking to their sound I may even one day like them.
