8/10 Brian Staff review, 06 December 2013

These four girls have been idling quietly on the fringes of the Newcastle scene for years now in various bands and whatnot before grouping together as Silver Fox. Together they've developed a knack for making spacey, brittle post-punk and harmony-drenched ramshackle indie and they're quite something to behold as a result.

After a couple of 7" singles for well respected underground labels such as Milk and M'Ladys, London experimental rock stable UTR have bagged them for their first album and it's a satisfying blend of raw, skeletal post Raincoats/ESG style chant-rock and minimalist tribal dream-pop. They're quite a sparse and rhythmic unit that have learnt to deploy their lovely array of voices in lieu of instrumental clutter and predictable verse-chorus-verse structures.

As a result this self-titled début is a lean, atmospheric and inviting affair that encompasses everything from ethereal choral vibes to funereal post-rock and experimental space-rock without compromising the gorgeous naive charm of their live shows. Much more to these lasses than just the usual spiky, shouty new wave fare that many acts adopt.

'Silver Fox' is a very personable and enjoyable record indeed. All Hail the North East of England!
