9/10 Jack Customer review, 4th January 2015
Following the baroque pop brilliance of Veckatimest, Shields seemed to be the logical progression for Grizzly Bear; a subdued, more sophisticated ensemble of tracks with a fuller sound. The songs that didn't make the cut are included on this release and more or less follow on from the sound established during the Shields recording sessions - at least for some of them. Smothering Green sounds like it would fit perfectly onto Daniel Rossen's (co-lead singer) solo EP Silent Hour/Golden Mile and Will Calls is unlike anything the band has recorded and is sung with beautifully intensity by Ed Droste. A few remixes appear on the tail end of this release and re-imagine Shield's tracks like Sleeping Ute in completely different ways.
