7/10 Ian Staff review, 14 November 2013
Western Vinyl release 'Dome Branches' by double bass/singer-songwriter Nat Baldwin, a collection of demos from his 2008 album ‘Most Valuable Player’.
As well as performing with such critically acclaimed artists as Grizzly Bear, Dirty Projectors, Vampire Weekend and Department Of Eagles, Baldwin has released a succession of great albums including 2011’s ‘People Changes’, creating an interesting sound with his double bass that brings a new level to the singer-songwriter tradition.
Considering these are just demos for a then-uncompleted album the production is pretty top notch: everything sounds polished and tight and to my mind wouldn’t require any post production techniques. I guess to a fan this would be an interesting addition to the collection and a little something to keep you going until his new album is released sometime in 2014, some of which he has been debuting on his US/Canada tour.
