8/10 Ian Staff review, 14 November 2013
Good old Static Caravan release this latest album from flute-botherer Laura J Martin.
‘Dazzle Days’ features a list of name-dropping collaborations from Tunng’s Mike Lindsay, Benge on synth and additional production, also none other than Neil Innes on bass. It’s an album of playful Kate Bush-esque experimental pop tunes, moments of folk, avant-pop and electronica. It all features on this melting pot of an album.
Martin is a bit of a multi instrumentalist it would seem, playing a long list of instruments: the aforementioned flute, obivously, but also piano, mandolin, ukulele, harmonium, etc. Laura’s pixie-like vocals fit beautifully with the overall jolly feel to the album. I seriously defy anyone to put on this album and not feel just a little bit happier than they were before.
Laura follows up this release with a two month tour with Euros Childs as a member of his band and as a support. What a hard working girl!
