9/10 ReviewBot300 Staff review, 12 November 2013
This one’s a bit of a departure for Trouble In Mind - Alex Cuervo (Hex Dispensers, Blacktop, Field of Snakes) has put together a selection of chill-laden synth instrumentals with obvious debts to the likes of John Carpenter, Goblin and Zombi, many of which play up their soundtrackiness with super-literal narrative titles like ‘Searching The Museum’, ‘Lost in the Catacombs’ or ‘The Haunted Doll Factory’.
Second track ‘Doomed Lovers in a Gathering Storm’ is the spit of ‘Tears’ by Giorgio (Moroder), but the primary influence throughout seems to be John Carpenter...Cuervo has done a great job of capturing his icy tentacles of dread through bright drones and pulses and simple, spooky melodic shapes. This is certainly the least expected of the three Trouble In Mind LPs this week and while it is shamelessly retro, in terms of high quality synth chills, horror soundtrack aficionados will find this one indulgently enjoyable.
