‘90s indie pop is really back isn’t it? Here’s a chunky bit of polished post-grunge fuzzpop from Darlia, about whom I know nothing. It’s kind of like the band you formed in school when they only things you listened to were Nirvana and the Red Hot Chili Peppers; a chunky chorus with Cobain-aping vocals and riffage alongside a quieter verse with some cod-funk Chilis-inspired rhythm guitar.
Over on the other side there’s a similarly unimaginative number with similar quiet verse/loud chorus dynamics. This one sounds like the Arctic Monkeys. It’s delivered with a perfectly acceptable degree of skill but all these ideas have been better executed by other bands already, and they were a bit dodgy even then. Just buy the ‘In Utero’ reissue instead.
